Død over Downs (“Death to Downs”)
The Danish Health Authority chose to offer a nuchal scan to all Danish pregnant women in 2004. The test can reveal whether or not one’s future child has Downs Syndrome.
This documentary consists of two programmes. In the first we seek to understand the reasons for offering the nuchal scan – both ethical and financial.
In the second programme we meet parents telling their stories. The national guidelines prescribe neutral and adequate guidance to the couples with a positive test result. However, these parents tell the story of how they felt compelled to choose abortion. Has the guidelines been followed and who is responsible?
